Decorations out of Balsa Wood

Did you know that it can be so easy to make beautiful decorations out of balsa wood?
For the windows, walls, doors, as gifts or quick gift tags!
What I have used:
balsa wood (3mm)
(balsa wood, not plywood!)
Mixed Media metal dies
die cutting machine
stamp (my own Silhouette Mint Stamp)
needle & thread
Wusstest du, dass es so einfach sein kann, schöne Dekorationen aus Balsaholz zu machen?
Für die Fenster, Wände, Türen, als Geschenk oder schneller Geschenkanhänger!
Was ich benutzt habe:
Balsaholz (3 mm)
(Balsaholz, kein Sperrholz!)
Mixed Media Stanzschablonen
Präge- und Stanzmaschine
Stempel (meinen Silhouette Mint Stempel)
Nadel & Faden

Cut out the butterflies and leaves with a die cutting machine.
(Balsa wood is so soft that you can also cut it with a knife!)
Schmetterlinge und Blätter mit einer Präge- und Stanzmaschine ausstanzen.
(Balsaholz ist so weich, dass man es auch mit einem Messer ausschneiden kann!)

Decorate the butterflies (on both sides) with stamps. I used a tiny stamp with colored flowers to give it a vintage look.
Die Schmetterlinge (auf beiden Seiten) mit Stempeln dekorieren. Ich habe einen winzigen Stempel mit farbigen Blumen genommen, für einen Vintage-Look.

Balsa wood is so soft that you can pull the thread with a needle through it!
Balsaholz ist so weich, dass man den Faden mit einer Nadel durchziehen kann!

I’m sharing my projects with these fabulous linky parties: look here!

  1. These are great balsa wood projects. I am loving the butterflies! If you have time, I’d love it if you could share this with me and my co-hosts over at the Dishing It & Digging It Link Party, I think our followers would love it. It goes live at 4 pm est today.

If not, I am still glad I found your blog. Have a great week!

  2. This looks like a really fun project. Just a question if you don't have a die cutter do you just cut it with a exacto knife and template?

    1. You can use a cutting knife, exacto knife or just scissors! Draw the template with a pencil on the balsa wood and cut it out.

  3. This is so beautiful and loved that you shared this great project at Dishing it and Digging it link party. Have a great week.

  4. You're so creative!
    Thanks for sharing at

  5. I've never thought of using balsa wood, but that's a great idea! It's light weight so it would be great for ornaments. I love the gift tags idea, that would be cute and be great for making magnets as well.

  6. These came out beautifully! I love the idea of using stamps on wood - I never would have thought of that!

  7. Aw, these are wonderful! I love working with balsa, but never considered cutting it in a die cutting machine - brilliant! Thanks for sharing at Snickerdoodle Sunday! Pinned to share.
